97 pounds in 6 months

I reached the 6 month mark on my diet yesterday, and have officially lost 97 pounds. I have a few more to go to hit my goal weight, though I am at the lowest I’ve ever weighed (since I hit this weight on the way up). I’m pretty happy with how things have been going. I started going to the gym a bit over a month ago,…

Moving back to Dallas

We have finalized our moving plans. We are going to try out the PODS system this time around. The main reason is that we can have them store our stuff for as long as needed, and deliver it once we have an actual place to live. For now, we will be living with the in-laws, until I find a job, either full time or…

Sold my car

In an effort to be frugal, now that I am unemployed, we decided to sell my car. This leaves us with just one vehicle, similar to when we first moved to our current house. So far, it hasn’t been an issue, but time will tell how well it works out. It is nice not having the extra $500 per month in expenses. I was able to…

The results are in!

I had my blood work done last Saturday, and I received the results from my Doctor today. To give a little background, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and High Cholesterol in June of 2009. I have been on medications ever since. When I started my diet in December, my main goal was to eliminate…

100 days

As of my morning weigh-in, I am down 68 pounds in 100 days. I actually think it’s more like 70, but I didn’t weigh myself at the start of day 1, but did it on the morning of day 2. In either case, I am satisfied with how things have gone. 10 more pounds to go till I am at my lowest weight since being a teenager.

90 days in...

and still going strong. Weight loss has slowed a bit, down to 0.68 pounds per day, but I am steadily getting closer to my goal. I am hoping that I reach my original goal (220) in March, and I should reach whatever my new maximum weight will eventually be in April or May. I don’t know if I will ever reach the weight…

The big 50

No, I’m not talking about the big game...or about my age. I’m talking about weight. I’ve lost 50 pounds in 68 days. So far, sticking to my diet hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it might be. I’m still hoping that my health continues to improve. A little over a week ago, I decided to stop taking my prescription…

Half way to my goal

I am 54 days into my diet and half way to my weight loss goal. Of course, I expect it to take more than another 54 days to lose the rest, but it’s good to be making steady progress. I plan to keep going till I reach my lowest weight in 30 years, but I don’t know exactly where that will end, so I’m focused on my…

Shaved my beard

I decided to return to my goatee from my Christmas break full beard yesterday. I shaved in the morning, and my wife and kids didn’t notice all day long. I mentioned it after dinner, and they finally realized the difference. I’m pretty sure this gives me at least one free pass on noticing when my wife gets a haircut.

I didn't win Powerball

Exactly as expected, I didn’t win the Powerball last night. Not even a single dollar. I have often commented to my wife that I never get things the easy way in life. And, frankly, I’m okay with that. I was raised to believe that you have to work for what you want, and I’ve been doing that my entire life. My first…

Cleared for work

I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon, and he cleared me to return to work...yay? After a few weeks of a new routine, it will take me some time to get back into my old routine. Getting up before the sun, taking the long train ride, walking in the freezing cold to the office. I can’t wait.

Eating properly is expensive

For the past few weeks, Mindy and I have been trying to eat more healthful meals. We’ve been juicing every morning for breakfast, and trying to use organic foods all day. We are eating about 70% vegetarian meals, with meat and/or fish only once or twice per week. The exception, of course, was over Christmas, where we…

Ahh...sleep

My brain has been known to betray me. It’s doing it right now, in fact. I need to be up in less than 5 hours for a meeting, and instead of letting me sleep, it’s running all over the place looking under rocks for neat things to examine. One day I’ll learn the trick to turning it off before bed. One thing I did read…

Winter sucks

The worst part about low calorie dieting in the winter is that I am always cold. I also want to get outside and get some walking done, but it’s too cold for that. Unless I want to risk going great some place like a mall to walk indoors, I’m basically stuck at home. I say risk because of my propensity for spending…

Stopped my pain killers

I’m not entirely sure it was the right time, but I decided to go without pain pills yesterday. On a positive note, I was able to finally poop. On the negative side, my arm still hurts quite a bit. I think I’ll just push through the pain, but we’ll see if I wuss out and take some ibuprofen. I’d rather stay off the…

I Love Meat

One of the struggles of my new diet is that I LOVE meat. As in the kind of love where people joke that I should marry meat. That said, I also have the same emotional attachment to Diet Coke (I even own stock in it), but I gave it up cold turkey at the start of my diet. Giving up meat is going to be more gradual and…

Recovery isn't much fun

I’m finding it more and more annoying to be limited to only using my (non-dominant) left hand. I definitely understand why the doctor told me he won’t ever perform the surgery on both arms at the same time, even if requested (he specifically mentioned wiping one’s behind as a challenge). I believe I will eventually…

My newest blog attempt

I’ve tried blogging quite a few times, but never stuck with it. I decided to give it another try, using a platform that, so far, works well from my Android phone (Galaxy Note 5). I’m currently on vacation from work, burning up my remaining vacation days, but spending time at home with my family (what can I say, we…
